ORIGINS
Origins is a multi-disciplinary meditation on the beginnings of life. The many facets of this performance installation are an ode to the miracle of life’s humble genesis and a reminder that all life on earth shares a common origin point. The large scale projections zoom in on repeating elemental processes like wasps tending a hive, activity within a cell, organisms replicating, and then slyly weave and transform the images into dancing bodies.
Origins is a continuous live performance rotating three VR viewers into the chairs at a time to experience the VR film. The waiting audience observes the installation from the perimeter of the dance space—theyare immediately immersed in floor to ceiling projections of larger than life dancers intertwined with macro images from the natural world, such as cross-sections of a busy wasp nest, growing mycorrhizae and enormous cells dividing. The external installation gives us a broad sense of the natural process of generation and the inexorable drive of continuation that all life has in common, while the VR film takes us inside of the very elements of one tiny unit of life.
