The Singularity Suite/When We Were Ocean

”Would that we could wake up to what we were—when we were ocean“—this excerpt from the poem Singularity by Marie Howe inspired the Singularity Suite part of ProLab Dance’s production in the 60’ tall dome at OMSI’s Kendall Planetarium. The interwoven layers of dance, music, and spectacular dome film tell vivid stories of longing and belonging in the modern world. I created the fulldome 360° spherical video projection inspired by both Howe’s poetry and frescoed domes created by Renaissance painters. Creative coding allowed me to marry imagery of company dancers to scientific imaging of ocean currents and ocean creatures capturing the “singularity” that Howe’s poem so beautifully expresses.
